Day 1 Cusco – km 82 – Llactapata – Wayllabamba

The 4 day Inca Trail trek begins with a pickup from your Cusco hotel early in the morning in private tourist transport. Our first stop will be the “living Inca village” of Ollantaytambo after about a 1.5 hour drive, where you will have some time for last-minute purchases, or a quick breakfast if you missed it in Cusco! Then we will continue to Piscacucho (also known as Kilometer 82) where the Classic Inca Trail starts. 

On arrival at KM 82 (2700m / 8858m), it is necessary to show entrance tickets, original passports and Crossing the Urubamba River, we begin our Inca Trail hike by climbing upwards from the beautiful Sacred Valley, watching the river get smaller below us.  

We will Hike around 3 hours (6km / 3.7 mi) to Llactapata, the first archaeological site on our journey.  It will also be the place for lunch.From there, another 4 km (2.5 mi) of gentle uphill through farmland takes us to Huayllabamba (also spelled Wayllabamba, 3000m / 9842 ft), and our campsite for the night. 

Day 2 Wayllabamba – Dead Woman’s Pass – Pacaymayo

After a good night’s rest, we will get start the most challenging day of the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. We will wake early in order to get a good start on the day, but we typically leave later than other groups to make sure we’re warmed up and ready to tackle the highest point on the trail. 

Leaving villages and farmland behind, we will enter the subtropical forest, stopping for an early lunch  Llulluchapampa (3780m / 12,402 ft). It’s 3.5 km (2.2 mi) from the campsite at Wayllabamba to Llulluchapampa, or about 3 hours hiking. 

From here we will start a steep ascent towards the highest pass on the classic Inca Trail 4 days route: the Abra de Warmihuañusca, or “Dead Woman’s Pass,” 4220m (13,845 ft). While it’s just 1.5 km (0.9 mi) to the pass, it takes us 2 hours as we climb upwards steeply – yes, it’s difficult! One of the advantages of our slower paced day is that the porters .You’ll feel an amazing sense of achievement upon reaching the top! 

After a rest, we continue downwards 600m (1968 ft) over 3 km (1.8 mi) through very humid forest to the evening campsite of Pacaymayo (3620m / 11,876 ft). 

Day 3 Pacaymayo – Runkuracay Pass – Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarka

We will get up early and after breakfast We will climbing up to reach the Runkurakay archaeological site (3,680 m/ 12,000 ft), which will take approximately one hour And we are going to explore and then we will continue to climb, this time towards the Abra Runkurakay, which will take about an extra hour to reach this point. 

The Abra Rankurakay (4,000 m/ 13,123 ft), offers an incredible view of landscapes that you will only experience on the way of the Inca Trail.  After enjoying these views, we will start the descent, which will take approximately one hour, until reaching the Sayacmarca archaeological site (3,650 m/ 11,800 ft). The stories of each place come to life when our tour guides explain the story  

Afterward, we continue Hiking until reaching Chaquicocha (3,600 m/ 11,800 feet), where we will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our chefs and take a short break to recharge our energies. 

Once rested and having enjoyed our lunch, we will Hike approximately one hour and a half to reach our camp in Phuyupatamarca (3,680 m/ 12,073 ft). Here, we can rest to be ready for the next day and enjoy a delicious dinner. This place gives us a beautiful view of the mountain range of Vilcabamba. 

Day 4 Phuyupatamarka – Wiñaywayna – Machupicchu - Aguas calientes

  • Maximum Altitude: 3680 m / 11, 876 ft 
  • Altitude Machu Picchu Town: 2050 m / 6,571 ft

We will start Hiking to Phuyupatamarca archaeological site (3,680 m/ 12,073 ft), where history is present in every step along its cobbled paths. Get ready! From this point, we will descend 3000 steps, which will take us approximately 2 hours, until we reach the Intipata archaeological site (2,800 m/ 9,270 feet), where we can admire its incredible terraces to It used for the cultivation of various agricultural products. 

After this experience, we will continue Hiking. Don’t forget to take those amazing pictures to share. We’ll advance until  WiñayWayna (2,680 m/ 8,792 ft), which will take us about an hour. Here, the biggest surprise will be its 40 terraces built on the mountain slopes. 

Are you feeling tired? After visiting some of these places, we will have a deserved rest and enjoy our delicious lunch to recharge our energies. 

Once we are ready and prepared, we will continue Hiking for about 2 hours until we reach Inti Punku (2,800 m / 9,270), from where we will have the most incredible view of the Machu Picchu Inca citadel. 

After enjoying this impressive view Machu Picchu after having traveled the Inca Trail, we will descend by bus to Aguas Calientes town (2,050 m/ 6,561 feet)where we’ll spend our last night in a Hotel  

Day 5 Aguas calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

We will start early to enjoy the amazing sunrise view in Machu Picchu Town (2,050 m / 6,561 ft). We will head to the bus station, which will take us to the entrance gate of the citadel of Machu Picchu.At this point, we must present our documents, such as your passport, and do not forget to show your ticket. This is where you will start exploring the Machu Picchu citadel (2,400 m.a.s.l./7,873 ft.) with our Tour guide, who will share accurate and fascinating data through the stories of this place.Once we have finished visiting Machu Picchu, we will descend to the Aguas Calientes town. You can use part of the remaining time for lunch (on your own). Then, you will board the train that will take you to Ollantaytambo, where our tourist Transport will be waiting for you to take us back to Cusco City
