The Salkantay Trek 5 Days to Machu Picchu is the second most popular Hike after the Inca Trail and one of the most amazing Trek in Peru. You will cross a great variety of landscapes, not only through the highest mountains of Cusco, such as the Salkantay but also through two impressive Inca sites: Llaqtapata and Machu Picchu.
Along the way, you will visit the famous Humantay Lake, camp at over 4,000 meters above sea level, and sleep where few others venture! Then, you will test your limits by Hike up to the Salkantay Pass at over 4,600 meters, where a magnificent glacial landscape awaits you. Later, you will make the radical transition from Cloud Forest to warm climate and also you will visit an organic coffe farm
On the 4th day, you will arrive at the impressive site of Llaqtapata, and get your first glimpse of Machu Picchu in the distance. After a last night at the hotel, you will finish the tour with a guided visit to the world wonder, Machu Picchu, and return to Cusco aboard the panoramic trains.

Start your journey with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco between 4:30 and We will drive untiL Mollepata 2:30 hours and in there we will enjoy the first breakfast ( Loca Restaurant )After that, we will travel 1 hour to the start point From there 2-hour hike uphill to Humantay Lake ( 4,200 m / 13,779 ft ) across an ancient aqueduct that provides water to the farmers in the lower regions. Once in Soraypampa, your trekking chef will be waiting for a well-deserved lunch, and later, we will begin a 2-hour ascent to Salkantay pampa basecamp at 3,900 m (12,795 ft). Once there, we will set up the tents, have tea time and dinner, and admire the clear night sky before sleeping.
We will surprise you in the morning with a hot cup of coca tea. Exiting your tent will show spectacular views of immense plains and snow-capped mountain peaks. After breakfast, we will begin a 2-hour ascent to the highest point of our hike, the Salkantay Pass (4,630 m / 15,190 ft). We will spend time at the summit exploring the majestic landscapes of Salkantay Mountain. From here, it will be a 3-hour downhill to our lunch place in Wayracmachay (3,800 m / 12,467 ft).
Next, we’ll begin another 3-hour descent from the highlands into the cloud forest, experiencing one of the most quick changes in weather and temperature. On the way, we will enjoy a variety of flora, hummingbirds, and orchids until we reach Collpapampa, located at 2,920 meters. We’ll spend the night close to a little village.
Day 3 Chaullay – La playa – Lucmabamba

We will wake you up at 5:00 AM, giving you time to pack, followed by breakfast served at 5:30 AM. The hike begins around 6:00 AM from the Lucmabamba campsite to the archaeological site of Llactapata.
Hike to Llactapata 3-hour ascent on an original and well-maintained Inca trail leads to the small archaeological site of Llactapata. From Llactapata, you will gain a unique view of Machu Picchu, Waynapicchu
Descent to Hidroelectrica Central: The path from Llactapata to Hidroeléctrica is somewhat steep, arguably the most pronounced descent of the trek. In this part, trekking poles are very helpful. It’s a 2-hour descent from Llactapata to the Hydroelectric station, where you will have lunch.
After lunch, you will have time to relax before continuing towards the town of Aguas Calientes.
Final Hike to Aguas Calientes: The last part of the day involves a 3-hour Hike along the railway from the Hydroelectric station to Aguas Calientes, the base town for Machu Picchu. Throughout this hike, you can also see parts of Machu Picchu from the valley.
Dinner in Aguas Calientes: Dinner is planned around 7:00 PM at a local restaurant in Aguas calientes and Hotel To sleep
Day 5: Explore Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
Today is the most important day of the Salkantay Trek. It is time to visit one of seven wonders,Machu Picchu a city abandoned for unknown reasons during the 16th century by the great Inca Empire. Wake up early, have breakfast at the hotel, and take the first buses to catch the sunrise in Machu Picchu. Your tour guide will take you to the most famous temples, palaces, and plazas and explain the mysteries of this spectacular Inca city perched on this impossible mountain peak. The guided tour takes about 3 hours, and you will have time to explore the magical citadel or climb Huayna Picchu or Montaña (Machu Picchu Mountain).
After finishing the citadel tour or your hike, you must take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, have lunch, collect your belongings from the hotel, and take the exclusive Panoramic train to return to Ollantaytambo and our private van to Cusco.
